CO 141 opened to passenger vehicles and Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) north of Slick Rock

Dolores and San Miguel Counties — On Aug. 20 at approximately 8 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation opened Colorado Highway 141 between Slick Rock and Naturita to both passenger vehicles and CMVs. A temporary steel plate will remain in place at Mile Point 24 until final paving operations are completed in the coming weeks. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling over the steel plate and uneven road surface.

On Aug. 19 at approximately 3 p.m., a traveler observed and reported road damage. CDOT discovered a sinkhole on the surface of the pavement that was approximately 12 inches in diameter. Initial investigations suggested a larger cavity underneath the northbound lanes. CO 141 was closed several hours in both directions until it was determined that the road could safely reopen to one-lane traffic. On Aug. 20, excavation work was completed in the northbound lanes to determine the full extent of subsurface damage, followed by backfill operations.
