Defining Moments in the Race for Biotech Breakthroughs
DENVER, Oct. 26, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (247marketnews.com) — These biotechnology companies are advancing important developments. NeOnc Technologies Holdings (NASDAQ:NTHI) is outlining plans for a major international brain cancer trial, Azitra (NYSEAMERICAN:AZTR) is preparing human testing of its experimental anti-wrinkle technology, ArriVent BioPharma (NASDAQ:AVBP) is reporting encouraging early response data for its gastrointestinal cancer candidate, and Xencor (NASDAQ:XNCR) is advancing its experimental kidney cancer therapy toward a potential registration-enabling study.
NeOnc: Brain Cancer Ambitions Take Center Stage
NeOnc (NASDAQ:NTHI) is bringing its investigational approach to brain cancer treatment to a national audience while outlining plans for a substantially larger international clinical effort. The company was featured October 25 on Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew on Fox Business Network, where its leadership discussed its strategy for reaching brain tumors without relying on invasive drug-delivery procedures.
At the center of the story is NEO100, an investigational formulation of highly purified perillyl alcohol administered intranasally. The approach is designed to use the nasal route to deliver treatment toward the brain, addressing a major obstacle in neuro-oncology: the blood-brain barrier, which limits the entry of many therapeutic compounds into the central nervous system.
During the program, company leadership discussed plans for a trial targeting approximately 500 patients across 30 hospitals in three countries. If implemented as described, the proposed study would represent a substantial expansion of the clinical-development effort.
The discussion also highlighted preliminary clinical observations and patient experiences. NeOnc has previously reported radiographic remission observations in a small clinical and compassionate-use population. The market will be watching for clarification of trial design, regulatory interactions, enrollment timing and additional clinical data as the company works to advance NEO100.
Azitra: Experimental Skin Technology Delivers a Striking Preclinical Signal
Azitra (NYSEAMERICAN:AZTR) is expanding its precision-dermatology platform into cosmetic applications with ATR-COSF, a candidate designed to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles using a recombinant domain of human filaggrin. Its latest announcement describes results from two ex vivo models using human skin obtained following cosmetic surgery.
In one model, a single application of the 2% formulation was associated with an approximately 15% reduction in measured wrinkle appearance after three hours, approximately 20% after 24 hours and approximately 50% after 48 hours. The hydrogel-only control did not produce comparable improvements. The company also reported preservation of net elasticity over the observation period.
A second model using facelift skin explants found that the 4% formulation improved all five measured elasticity parameters six hours after application, outperforming both the 2% formulation and the hydrogel control.
The next major milestone is human testing. Azitra anticipates initial results from a first-in-human cosmetic study involving approximately 30 subjects by year-end 2026, with additional details scheduled for presentation at BIO-Europe in Cologne on November 10. The company also continues to advance ATR-04, its investigational live biotherapeutic program for epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor-associated rash in cancer patients.
ArriVent BioPharma: Gastrointestinal Cancer Drug Posts Encouraging Early Response Rates
ArriVent BioPharma (NASDAQ:AVBP) delivered early oncology updates with initial Phase 1 results for ARR-217, an investigational antibody-drug conjugate targeting cadherin-17 (CDH17). The candidate, also known as MRG007, is being developed in collaboration with Lepu Biopharma and is intended for gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal cancer.
At the 6 mg/kg dose administered every three weeks, the company reported an objective response rate of 44.8% among 29 previously treated colorectal cancer patients. That figure included seven confirmed partial responses, four responses pending confirmation and two unconfirmed partial responses. The reported disease control rate was 93.1% in the same cohort.
Across colorectal cancer patients treated at doses of at least 4 mg/kg every three weeks, ArriVent reported an objective response rate of 34.2% among 73 patients and a disease control rate of 91.8%.
The safety profile also warrants close attention. Across all 123 treated patients with gastrointestinal malignancies, 30.1% experienced treatment-related adverse events of Grade 3 or higher. The company reported no Grade 5 treatment-related adverse events or interstitial lung disease in the analysis. ARR-217 has advanced into Phase 1b dose optimization at 5 mg/kg and 6 mg/kg, with further data expected in 2027.
Xencor: XmAb819 Advances Toward Potential Registration-Enabling Study
Xencor (NASDAQ:XNCR) advancing XmAb819, an investigational bispecific antibody designed to direct T cells toward ENPP3-expressing tumor cells, with a focus on advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Updated Phase 1 findings presented at the 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology Congress support the company's selection of 400 micrograms per kilogram as its proposed intravenous recommended Phase 3 dose.
In the efficacy-evaluable cohort at that dose, five of 11 patients had confirmed partial responses, representing a confirmed objective response rate of 45.5%. One additional patient had an unconfirmed partial response, bringing the reported unconfirmed-inclusive response rate to 55%. The company also reported an estimated six-month progression-free survival rate of 82%, with median progression-free survival not yet reached at the October 1 data cutoff.
The results are notable because the study population had advanced disease and substantial prior treatment exposure.
Xencor plans to discuss a potential accelerated-approval pathway with the FDA during the first half of 2027 and intends to initiate a global randomized study comparing XmAb819 with tivozanib in previously treated patients.
